Music Profile

Richard is 33 and lives in Warboys, near Huntingdon. Richard plays upright double bass, acoustic and electric bass guitars in acoustic and amplified environments. He is confortable in arranged and improvised environments and can read from lead sheets.

Richard has been playing for a few years, gigged a number of times and is looking for semi-professional and origional bands to work with. He can lock with a decent drummer, play in key, arrange and improvise bass lines if required. In the past Richard has mostly played Rock, Pop, Indi, Jazz and can pick up songs quickly. Backing vocals are possible when required, but has a limited range.

The gear Richard has includes professional level electric & acoustic guitars plus 3/4 upright, professional lightweight bass rig, 1Kw PA, own transport. See the equipment gallery for more details.

Rock and indi influences include Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Verve, Ocean Colour Scene, Supergrass, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Muse, The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Wombats and The Automatic.

Jazz/fusion influences include Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Gen Miller, Jamiroquai and Jamie Cullum.

Business Profile

The beginning of Richard's career was dominated by becoming successful in technical aspects of product development and later business development. Having grown from a graduate trainee to a senior position with a £75m company, founded 2 companies and grown one to a multimillion pound turnover. Richard is a dedicated, driven and ambitious focused on achieving results and goals. "Whatever it takes" is not a woolly management speak, Richard has been there and done it.

Richard Thurbin can bring these skills to bare in a wide variety of settings, including:

Since 2009 though he took the decision to pursue a music career more seriously in the longer term. Since then he has been part of a number of rock, pop and blues bands, gaining experience and improving his technique. Richard believes music is a life long journey and there is always something new and exciting to learn or improve.

Co-founded Peacock Promotions promoting music events for the Ely and surrounding areas. Worked with artists like Ian Parker, Dr Feelgood, The Side to put on a professional, well attended music events.

November 2006 to current.

Co-founded Cloud Amber to offer a range of products and services focused on the intelligent transport systems market. Responsible for all technical and marketing  aspects of the company including product development, vision and strategy. The current product portfolio includes enterprise level database systems and servers, fully integrated system inputs and management, cutting edge consumer outputs using the latest mobile and multimedia technologies. Successful examples of on time and to budget system deliveries, integrations and support include South Yorkshire PTE, Surrey County Council and Oxfordshire County Council, where multiple systems have been seamlessly integrated in to a coherent and reliable platform for the future.
